The Wedding at Cana: An explosive time was had by all!

Another gem from the Globe and Mail, and more fallout from the imminent release of The Passion of the Christ. This is an excerpt from a letter, printed in the February 20th issue, from Ian Coleman of Edmonton:

...But how could any movie about any portion of the life of Jesus be anything other than historically dubious when all the Christian gospels contain descriptions of events that could never have happened.

One example of many: In the Gospel according to John, Jesus turns water into wine. Wine contains carbon atoms, and water does not. To produce carbon atoms from the oxygen atoms in water, Jesus would have had to split two protons from each oxygen atom.

Doing this to the oxygen atoms in a gallon of water would have caused an atomic explosion that would have destroyed most of Roman-held Judea.

I love it! There are times when people take religion so damned seriously; the occasional scientific (and humourous) look into these mysteries provides some welcome refreshment from the usual holier-than-thou pretentions of the more fundamentalist elements in our society.

Now, if only The Simpsons would do another spoof of the Bible... smile
