Nostalgia for Schlock

kungfu.jpg

Watching Kill Bill Volume 2 on the weekend (see REVIEW section below) reminded me just how much shlocky film and TV I have watched and -- frighteningly enough -- enjoyed over the years.

The 1970s were a particularly good time for it: I have a memory bank full of episodes of Kung Fu, Battlestar Galactica, The Six Million Dollar Man and Super Friends. Right beside it are afternoons watching Godzilla movies and Hong Kong action films so bad that the dubbing skills can only be described as mind-numbing!

And I loved it all! So I raise a glass to shlock, and to people like Quentin Tarrantino and the crew of the now defunct Mystery Science Theatre 3000 -- people who know its value and celebrate it. May it live on!
