Today's Globe and Mail has an article by Brian Laghi about religious activists set to run for the Conservatives in the next election. Specifically, they seem to be fighting against Bill 250: legislation that would make it an offence to promote hatred against gays and lesbians. As quoted from the article, these candidates, and the groups who support them, "argue that the law would infringe on freedom of religious expression."
In other words, they are saying the law would not let them promote hatred against these people because they use the Bible to support their wacky-doodle diatribes!
Well, I want to get in on the act as well. I want to beat my students with reeds and keep a slave at home to clean the toilet! Pull out that Bible and let me use the appropriate passages to support my schemes! After all, the Bible doesn't condemn slavery, nor does it lay out any dogma against domestic violence. Wouldn't it be nice to able to smite someone, or cut off their ear for disobedience? Wouldn't stoning relieve a great deal of stress in our troubled society? Remeber, the Bible doesn't say I CAN'T do this...!
Sound ridiculous? Of course it is! They say that the devil quotes scripture for his own ends...well, as far as these looney, wanna-be-Republican-religious-do-gooder-nut bars are concerned, all I can say is this: if the shoe fits...

That's right, ladies and gentleman...Jets Go, one of our new up-and-coming, national discount airlines, has a giant green happy face as it's corporate logo. It's plastered for all to see on the tails of their airplanes! It's big and green and bold and unabashedly happy and nice!
There's something about this that quintessentially sums up our character as Canadians, don't you think?
