John Doyle's TV column in The Globe and Mail is a joy to read, because it's full of his caustic, sarcastic, sharp Irish wit. Recently, it's been used to good effect, as he's been campaigning to get FOX News onto Canadian cable. According to him, we should all watch and laugh at the best comedy on television.
The bait was picked up by FOX news star Bill O'Reilly, who called Doyle a pinhead, and the Globe a left-wing outfit (pause for insane laughter). This was then followed by...
(1) Many emails to Doyle calling him an @**hole, pussy, wussy, pr*ck, jerk, hack, and creep (in other words, the kind of people who watch FOX news)
(2) Many emails from Americans apologizing for all of this (in other words, the kind of decent, hard working, balanced, sane, tolerant Americans we know that actually make up MOST of the population).
Then, along comes Peter Worthington of The Toronto Sun, Canada's answer to a right-wing elder statesmen. On Monday, he slagged off Doyle for his juvenile writing, and thinks we need FOX news to challenge prevailing orthodoxy & think differently. He also says to trust him about FOX news not being pathologically conservative or right wing.
Hmm....here's an example of things said by people who appear from time to time on FOX News...

Guess what...all of these we're uttered by Bill O'Reilly of FOX news! A man Mr. Worthington is so convinced we should all be exposed to everyday (though I think it ranks somewhere on the list with drinking hemlock on a daily basis).
So, Mr. Worthington, let's get one thing straight. I'd be happy to let FOX News into Canada...we should all get a chance to see the kind of right wing loony-bin ranting that makes this network the mad dog of television. We should let them in because Canada is the most tolerant, peaceful, egalitarian, understanding nation on Earth...and we all deserve a laugh at the expense of people who either (a) just don't get who we are, and (b) are threatened by everything we stand for.
You too seem threatened by everything Canadians stand for, Mr. Worthington. If our country is too leftist, too liberal, too tolerant, and too taxed for your (very right wing) taste, then why don't you move to the nirvana you believe exists south of the border? I'm sure they'd welcome you with open arms. Meanwhile, my generation can get back to building our lovely socialist paradise, dress in matching red outfits, marry gay couples, smoke dope until our ears bleed, provide free university tuition, and fill our
parliament with nothing but Liberal and NDP MPs who want to create endless crown corporations! 
Hmm....that was a rant worthy of FOX news.
