Conservative bigotry: The bottomless black hole

So, what's come out of the mouth of homophobic, bigoted Conservatives since yesterday?

Well, how about Stephen Harper wanting to revise the hate-crimes legislation because he thinks the phrase "sexual orientation" is TOO VAGUE?!?

And the justification for this? Well, according to the Conservative Justice Critic (pause for hollow laughter),

"...laws need to change to protect organizations such as religious schools from losing public funds for teachings that question the morality of homosexuality."

Hmm...according to the Conservatives, it's ok to discriminate against homosexuals as long as you're using religion as a shield. How 14th century of them!

But our wacky fun with the Conservative hate mongers doesn't stop here. Cheryl Gallant is BACK, ladies and gentlemen, with yet another pronouncement from on high. At a rally she recently attended, she made the following comments:

...the civilized world was "horrified" at the beheading of young American by terrorists in Iraq. She compared the killing to the abortions performed in Canada over 35 years and said it is "absolutely no different."

I wonder if Nick Berg's parents have the same viewpoint?

And, to be fair, I'm certainly not happy with Liberal MPs Paul Szabo or Paul Steckle, who both attended the rally, and pontificated like the pompous pro-lifers they are. My advice to them is to switch to the Conservatives...the Liberal Party should have no place for religious zealots.

Finally, to close today's rant against the dark ones, and to cleanse my palate, here's a reprint of the editorial cartoon from the Globe and Mail's June 5th edition. There's been some controversy surrounding it, but it left me absolutely stunned by the beauty of its message. Enjoy...
