And now we officially have a government

Prime Minister Paul Martin's new cabinet has been announced.

Unlike my friend Greg at Sinister Thoughts, I like this new cabinet. It's a nice combination of stable old faces and interesting new faces, and I think it will give us at least 18 months of stability in our new minority parliament.

Or...it could blow up in our faces. But that's politics for you. :)

That said, I'm happy with two particular choices. Scott Brison (remember...he'll be Prime Minister one day!) is the new Public Works Minister. He also becomes Canada's first openly gay minister of the crown, and it's a nice snub to the faces of Conservatives and their 16th century mind set.

The other is a local-girl-does-well story: Karen Redmond, MP for Kitchener Centre, becomes the new Chief Whip -- responsible for ensuring compliance and voting and (literally) cracking the whip in Parliament and caucus.

Hmm...I wonder if she's ever watched House of Cards?

3:38pm-ish UPDATE:

It would seem that Warren Kinsella agrees with my "not bad" assessment of the cabinet. Go HERE to read his view.
