When I left you, I was but a learner...now I AM the master!

Yesterday, I said I’d have something more substantial to write about in today’s entry…

I lied.

Instead, I have regular first-day class nerves. I’m preparing to scrurry around, reintroducing myself to the photocopiers and printers, coming away with piles of new assignments, seating plans, and other assorted paper work that revolves around life as a teacher.

I’m also resurrecting the dark, terrifying, scatter-brained, sometimes-witty personality that is me during the ten months of the year that I rule my small kingdom of a classroom. It tends to go into hibernation during the summer, so I have to drag it, kicking and screaming, out of hiding.

If my teaching personality had a theme song (isn’t that so Ally McBeal?), it would be the Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back. It’s been said on more than one occasion that I have a Darth Vader-ish presence. If only I had the outfit…

Give me time. smile

I could certainly use the dark side of the force in the classroom, though I admit I can’t think of a time I’d pick up a student by the neck, demanding to know where secret transmissions might have been sent. Mind you, with the number of cell phones carried by my students, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility…as long as they’re not making long-distance calls to Alderaan.

Ok, enough of this…it’s time to push off and be productive. I’m sure the paper will give me something to rant about tomorrow.
