Yes, the first week of school is over, and I survived. It was a week full of frustrations, bad news, sad news, and the realization that my brain and body work best on a schedule…but I survived.
People don’t seem to realize that teaching is PHYSICALLY exhausting. The mental toughness required for the task literally sucks every bit of energy from your body, leaving behind the empty, lethargic carcass that manages to drag itself home every night. Hell, it’s only adrenaline that keeps me awake on the drive home on the 401!
Meanwhile, in the “hey, I forgot all about that” category, I re-discovered two things in this first week back:
1—Teachers can throw good parties (like the one I attended last night);
2—Saturdays ARE GIFTS FROM GOD! There is nothing better than luxuriating in a sleep-in…snuggled under warm, soft covers…the alarm turned off… It makes a week of getting up at 5:15am bearable.
At this moment, I’m trying to get some enthusiasm to go to the gym…but I’ll probably go back to the couch and eat another bowl of Sugar Crisp. ![]()
