Keep an eye on this shaky minority parliament. It may not last very long. Just look at this excerpt from the CBC news site:
Although the opposition parties have all said they don’t want to go to the polls soon, the Conservatives have said they will introduce amendments to the throne speech.
If the amendments are not accepted, Harper has warned that his members may vote against the throne speech, which could trigger the collapse of the government, if the NDP and Bloc Qubcois follow suit.
Liberal House Leader Tony Valeri said Monday the government is prepared to accept amendments, but only those that do not compromise its agenda.
“If an opposition passes an amendment and it changes the intent of the government or defeats a motion to approve the speech from the throne, it’s clear we go to an election,” he said.
This is ridiculous…did we learn nothing from the Joe Clark debacle of 1979? Mind you, if I was a Liberal, I would certainly not shy away from milking the situation for all it’s worth: an angry electorate; the Liberal party, campaigning with righteous fury against the evil Opposition that brought down the government early, and for selfish reasons.
Can you smell a Liberal majority? I dare you, Stephen Harper…
And…IT’S OFFICIAL! DOCTOR WHO On the CBC!
Here’s the OFFICIAL press release from the BBC. Go read it and celebrate!
I’m off to do the dance of joy, Joss Wheddon style.
