And then there were 13

There seems to be a lot of publicity surrounding Prime Minister Paul Martin’s recent comments on our three territories eventually becoming provinces. It’s making front page news across the country.

Why?

Mr. Martin has only verbalized what most educated people already know: that the Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories are virtually provinces already, with Premiers, and control over most of their own affairs, such as health and education. The devolution of powers is a natural progression, and eventually, somewhere down the road, they will become provinces.

Why is this so shocking? I don’t know…it would seem that the press doesn’t have much to write about, and Mr. Martin offering no timetable for his position on the territories is no big deal. The man is simply offering his opinion as Prime Minister, and that’s that.

There’s no point in burning bridges that have yet to be built.
