Today’s Globe and Mail has the Prime Minister, and all the Opposition Leaders in the House of Commons, rejecting Ralph Klein’s stupid, ridiculous, and insensitive call for a referrendum on the gay marriage issue.
NOTE TO POLITICAL SCIENCE STUDENTS: Minority rights are never the purview of mob rule — they cannot be protected by the will of the majority, because (1) the mob (I mean, population) is fickle and uneducated, and (2) social evolution doesn’t stop because SOME people don’t like it.
Then again…isn’t Alberta full of dinosaurs? That explains it…
Some people are able to see through Klein’s foolishness. The following letter in today’s Globe makes an interesting case for some tit-for-tat action:
If we hold a referendum on same-sex marriage, could the following question be added as well: “Should Alberta gas and oil be sold in Canada at a lower price that it is sold to the United States?”
Bill Blair, Kitchener, Ont.
As far as I’m concerned, Alberta can go freeze in the dark (remember that one?). Only this time, the darkness they can comfortably hunker down in is one of medieval morality and sanctimonious pontification. Thanks to Ralph Klein, I hope they enjoy it.
