I love Christmas (yes I do!)

Yes, I’m a commercial whore, but I love buying and giving gifts as much as I love receiving them.

Today, I gave my best teacher friend the DVD set of the recent Greatest Canadian series (thank you, evil cheap Wal-Mart gods), and the smile on his face was all that I needed to see to know that it was a gift that would keep on giving.

In return, he gave me a copy of Pierre Berton’s The National Dream — a famous work that I have yet to read…but a few sessions on the bike at the gym will solve this missed reading opportunity.

Is it ridiculous to get warm and fuzzy over simple gifts? Nonsense…it’s the people giving them, the thought put into the gifts, that makes it worth while. It’s fun, it’s happy, it’s wonderful. It’s like Linus with his security blanket…complete with contented smile.

Cue sentimental Charlie Brown Christmas special music and turn on the icicle lights.
