Last Day of School (a.k.a. "Crawling across the finish line")

It’s the last day of school, and it’s time to vent two points of frustration.

1-Who’s bright idea was it for our local boards to start our holidays mid-week, on a Wednesday, instead of the previous Friday? Was someone THAT desperate for extra hangover time after New Year’s? Do you know how many of my students have already left for their vacation, thinking (as most rational people would) that we were getting out on a Friday?

Grrrr….

2-Spending my own money on school supplies ever year PALES in comparison to what I need to get together for 3 class Christmas/Last Day of School celebrations.

For today, I have purchased the following items, which are guaranteed to send children home in a state of frenzied, happy insulin shock:

1 giant box of 48 snack sized bags of chips

3 boxes of Zehr’s chocolate chip cookies

2 $10 gift certificates at HMV (for class raffles)

2 DVDs (for class raffles)

Am I crazy? Perhaps (someone should do a study…), but what can I say…I wouldn’t be doing this unless I enjoyed it…for some inexplicable reason. The life of a teacher is frought with peril…and a great deal of sugar and cholesterol.
