1-The Good
The arrival of Candice Bergen on Boston Legal. The star of the 10-year-run of the magnificent Murphy Brown joined the regular cast last night, and demonstrated once again what she can do with a witty, fast-paced, juicy script. One moment, she can do quirky. The next moment, she can do deadly serious…and the transitions between these states reveal a masterclass in acting ability. She delivers put downs that would make Katherin Hepburn drool, and she can hold an audience spellbound, delivering dry legal monologues with gorgeous depth.
Her character is also a VERY formidable liberal…someone to be reckoned with. David E. Kelly always did know how to give the middle finger to America’s right wing morons.
Bergen adds tremendous star power to an already powerful ensemble, and her chemistry with both James Spader and William Shatner is electric. Just another reason you should be watching this wonderful, demented, delightful program.
