The Aching Day

My shoulder still hurts, my leg still aches, and my hand continues to sting. Hello March, you sick bastard of a month. You couldn’t even give me a decent snow day!

In other news…

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice deferred plans to visit Canada next month because of U.S. displeasure that Canada has opted out of a U.S.-led anti-ballistic missile shield program, a Bush administration official said.

Spare me the hurt feelings. Has someone reminded the United States that, aside from being divisive, expensive, and prone to increasing world tensions, their proposed missile defense system DOESN’T WORK?

That’s what they’re truly angry about — we had the audacity to based our decision on domestic politics…and the fact that it DOESN’T WORK!

Did I mention that it DOESN’T WORK?

Our outgoing rep from the U.S. is even more incomprehensible in his remarks:

Paul Cellucci, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, says he’s still stunned at Canada’s decision.

“As I said last week, I don’t understand why Canada would give up its seat at the table, given our history of working together in the defence of North America, particularly at NORAD. But that was a decision for Canada,” he told CTV News.

This is rich. Is he implying that the United States only protects those “friends” who don’t require permission to violate their airspace? With friends like that, who needs to worry about North Korea!

That’s the 1st of March for you: bitter, blustery, and full of aches caused by an assortment of annoyances — both real and imagined.

Enjoy your day.
