The Conservative Braintrust: A contradiction in terms

The Tories certainly seem to be…well, let’s call it back tracking…on their earlier “bring-the-government-down-at-all-costs” front.

Take this comment from Larry Miller, the Conservative MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound:

“I’ve said for a while that I don’t think we should be going to an election right now.”

And then there’s pretty-boy pit bull Peter McKay, who was telling the country that an election is like going to the dentist: you may not want it, but it’s necessary and good for you. Now, he seems to be singing a different tune:

“I wouldn’t call it inevitable…I think that the leader will still want to hear from caucus and get a cross-section of feedback from right across the country… I think there’s still room for discretion.”

Even that Machiavellian John Reynolds said:

“You can always change your mind in politics.”

So…seeing poll numbers that spell bad news, and an electorate that might take out their frustrations on THEM, the Conservatives swing into a giant, and terribly unsubtle, U-turn.

The Canadians Right: say one thing, say another thing, say a third thing. It’s like watching their policy convention on endless replay…
