Weekend miscellany

1—I went to see Monster-In-Law on Saturday. It was an incredibly disposable movie, and J-Lo still can’t act her way out of a packing crate, but I have two words for why you should see this movie, despite it’s written-on-the-back-of-a-napkin plot and boring direction: Jane Fonda.

The woman is positively fierce in this movie. She plays a role that seems to be a dark, outrageous commentary on all the triumphs and failures of her life — from the men to the wardrobe. As far as I’m concerned, we were watching therapy on the big screen…and Ms. Fonda sank her teeth into every moment. This woman should do more comedy — she had a presence that radiated more energy than the rest of the cast combined!

And she looked fabulous! Fifteen years away from movies, and she’s still got it. I look forward to seeing more of her…

2—I lucked out on buying my Star Wars Episode 3 tickets. I walked into Silver City on Saturday morning, asking what was still available for opening day…and I was informed they had just announced midnight screenings, and I was the first one to buy tickets! I must have stored up some good karma for that moment.

So I’ve committed myself to seeing a movie at 12:01am Thursday morning, to be followed by a field trip to Toronto with my Grade 11 class later that same morning. I’m going to be zombie-Frankenstein-teacher…but it’s worth it. wink
