Ok…enough is enough. Security is one thing, but now we’re verging on Nixon-style paranoia:
Cost of flying could soar Wednesday, June 1, 2005 Updated at 9:06 PM EDT
Ottawa: The price of airline tickets between Canadian cities could go up if the United States implements an anti-terrorist strategy that would force domestic airlines to fly new routes far north of the American border, Transport Minister Jean Lapierre said Wednesday.
The minister said he is fighting hard to keep Washington from getting its hands on Canadian passenger lists for domestic flights that stray into U.S. airspace.
But if he fails, Canadian carriers might have to take pains to avoid conventional routes that cross over northern U.S. states, he added

Ok, newsflash to Washington: Canadians flying from one Canadian city to another are NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!
Additional ranting: Washington has become a nest of frightened, cowardly reactionaries, using 9/11 as an pretext to increase security, in order to transform the United States into an Orwellian state Senator McCarthy would have been proud to live in! The U.S. government may want to convert to a supposedly-begnin form of Stalinism (your papers pleases!), but it has NO RIGHT to demand that from its neighbours, who pose NO THREAT WHATSOEVER to the security of the continent.
If we have to fly over our own airspace, so be it! I’d rather pay extra and take a bit more time than submit to this kind of security gobshite!
