I told you so...maybe...

Today’s headline in The Globe and Mail:

LIBERLAS VOW TO PASS SAME-SEX BILL

Plans announced to extend House sitting for gay-marriage and budget legislation

Ottawa — The Paul Martin government took extraordinary steps yesterday to push through legislation making same-sex marriage legal, vowing to keep MPs in their seats into the summer to pass the controversial bill.

The Liberal government made the rare move of giving notice that it plans to extend the sitting of the House of Commons for the first time since the 1988 free-trade debate, giving MPs longer to pass both the same-sex bill and budget legislation that the Tories are now holding up.

So…we might be on the cusp of the most courageous, ballsy move ever conceived by the so-far undistinguished & lethargic Martin government. My one and only hope is that they DON’T screw this up…and that the Conservatives realize that they’re beaten.

If I were the Conservative caucus, I’d be more concerned with making the Stephen Harper Summer BBQ tour succeed…a much more challenging task that passing (or opposing) same-sex marriage.

I’d offer more criticism of the prince of darkness, but I’m in a mellow mood this morning (or maybe it’s just gas). So I’ll let him off the hook and look for more interesting targets…
