Stephen Harper is truly a pathetic creature.
Yesterday, during the height of the 25th anniversary celebrations of gay pride in Toronto, Harper attends a Muslim convention and launches into a virulent diatribe against same-sex marriage:
“You believe, I believe, most Canadians believe that the traditional institution of marriage should be recognized and respected in law. Unfortunately, the Liberal government doesn’t believe this. It is working with their allies in the NDP and the separatists to attack these beliefs and to abolish the traditional institution of marriage.”
He stands up and spews this hateful nonsense, next to clerics who vow that the vengeance of God will rain down upon us for this sinful, Sodom & Gomorrah nation of ours. This is simply confirmation of the hateful bigorty at the heart of Stephen Harper’s world view.
God help his children if one of them turns out to be gay.
As for that buffoon Pat O’Brien, he?s trying to decided what he?ll do after he votes against same-sex marriage:
“It’s pretty obvious it’s going to pass in the next few days, unfortunately…This government has no mandate from the Canadian people to change the definition of marriage.”
No mandate? Mr. O’Brien, do you mean to say that the rule of law in this country ISN’T subject to mob-mentality, tyranny of the majority? Do you mean that court decisions, the Supreme Court Reference, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms actually triumph in protecting a persecuted minority from hatred and discrimination?
Oh God, we’re DOOMED!!!
Let’s be clear about this one more time. If you oppose same sex marriage, it is because (1) you HATE gay people, (2) you FEAR gay people, or (3) you HATE AND FEAR gay people. There is nothing rational in opposing same-sex marriage. It is a direct result of hatred, bigotry, and paranoia.
And…using religion as a justification for bigotry and hatred is SIMPLY AN EXCUSE! Continuing with such a belief system will only result in the great lord Pierre Trudeau meeting you at the pearly gates, when your time comes, barring you entry into paradise with the wave of a certain famous finger!
