The Upcoming Delay

My summer holidays are on hold for one week, as I prepare to commute everyday into Toronto this week to take a training course for AP credits.

AP (Advanced Placement) is the American system of high school credits that are the equivalent of university/college courses. In theory, you can obviate your entire freshman post-secondary year with enough AP credits. The school board seems interested in offering it, and thanks to their generous offer to actually PAY for it (an historic moment), me and my friend Garry are off for a week to see how the Americans do their thing.

I wish we had done this last year — I had an amazing crop of grade 12s this year that would have loved to take advantage of such a course. Now, at best, we’re not going to offer this until the 2006-2007 school year. A little forward planning usually goes a long way, but bureaucracy dances to its own (dated!) tune.

So I’m off to play student for another week at a private girls’ school north of Yonge and Eglington. If you don’t see much posting…or you see very irritated posting…you now know the reason…
