The Agony

I’ll blog about the rest of my AP training days tomorrow…after what happened this morning, I don’t have to stomach to be terribly light hearted.

I was exploring the idea of going for a vacation in London some time this summer…and now fate has responded with a horrific series of subway and bus bombings (for fate read al Qaeda).

I was shaving this morning, when the radio began talking about a series of underground explosions in London. In my half-awake state, I began thinking “does London, Ontario HAVE an underground?”

Then I realized which London they were talking about…and my blood started to run cold.

Out the bathroom door, grab the remote control, and flip to that reliable soothsayer of doom, CNN.

So I’m stuck in my course in Toronto, when I’d rather be watching CNN or CBC at home, wanting to live this horrible piece of history…my empathy being the only way I can provide solace to the dead and injured of a glorious city I’ve been dreaming of visiting for years.

The irony of all this is that I’ve been taking the subway all week. Rationalism be damned, but the ride back to my car this afternoon isn’t going to feel quite the same…
