…and with it, the end of my AP training course. It was informative, fun, and led by one hell of a solid instructor from Houston, Texas. She even said y’all ALL the time. It was awesome!
As to whether or not we’re going to actually offer AP in our school? Well…that’s a vicious rant for another day.
Let’s talk about what really mattered this past week. Despite the mother-load of free text books, the interesting lectures & unique course content…well, let’s face it: it was all about the FOOD!
Day 3 on Wednesday was a half-day, so they prepared for us (all 200 of us!) brown bag lunches. Inside each bag, we had a Greek-style grilled chicken wrap (which was devine), a bag of veggies, a giant dark chocolate chip cookie with white chocolate chips (my favourite!), a big juicy red apple, and a bottle of water.
Walking down Yonge Street with my pal Garry, eating lunch on a beautiful summer afternoon…it was more than we could ask for…
…except that’s when we passed a hot dog stand, it’s glorious smell pulling us in, & offering a giant hot dog and a pop for $2.00…
…and you can guess what happened next. ![]()
On Thursday (Day 4), lunch included grilled flank steak, chicken breasts stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, and a juicy rice dish. My carnivore heart pumping, I went back for THIRDS!
And finally, our final Friday (Day 5) farewell lunch was a choice between freshly-made meat or veggie cannelloni, with fresh caesar salad, and heaping bowls of bread and thinly-baked sesame-seed crisps!
Mark my words…I will NEVER eat this well again during a school function. And before you ask…Happy Hour continued to be extravagantly happy.

The only real excitement occurred during the subway trip back to Kipling station on Thursday afternoon, where my car was waiting to take us home in air conditioned comfort. Considering what happened in the London Underground that day, we were all joking about what could happen to us on the Toronto subway…
…and that’s when all the power shut down, and we stopped dead in the tunnel, between stations!
To say it was eerily quiet is an understatement. The lights were on low, and the air conditioning had stopped. We were getting very warm and very irritated…and then, the subway driver’s little boy, who was sitting in the seat next to the driver’s cab, said at the top of his voice: “Daddy, why can’t ALL the lights go out! It would be SO COOL!”
That broke the ice, and in less than 10 minutes, we were on our way once more, power restored, air conditioning functional, and passengers slowly becoming less and less homicidal.
It’s now Saturday, and my summer holidays have FINALLY begun…so I’m going to happily sleep in. I advise all of you to do the same. ![]()
