THE 10th DOCTOR REVEALED! DOCTOR WHO, Season 2, begins filming!

Outpost Gallifrey has all the news, but so far, I must say…I love the new outfit! It certainly leans more towards a John Pertwee/3rd Doctor geek-chic look, and the long coat adds a touch of Tom Baker/4th Doctor sophistication.

Here are Executive Producer Russell T. Davies words, which perfectly sums up the anticipation I’m already feeling:

“We were delighted and honoured by the first series’ success, and we can promise new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak, and some terrifying new aliens. The Doctor and Rose are destined to meet Queen Victoria, an evil race of Cat Women, and the dreaded Cybermen. 2006 is going to be scarier than ever!”

What more could you ask for? How about this range of guest stars:

As previously rumoured, Elisabeth Sladen has been confirmed to be returning to her original series role of Sarah Jane Smith, companion to the third and fourth Doctor, officially the first classic Doctor Who actor to be reprising a role for the new series. A separate BBC news article today confirmed Sladen’s role in the series. Sladen played Sarah from 1973’s The Time Warrior to 1976’s The Hand of Fear, also appearing in the spin-off K9 & Company in 1981, and The Five Doctors in 1983. Sarah Jane Smith is consistently voted as the most popular companion to ever grace the classic series, and her return is warmly anticipated by all long term fans.

Anthony Stewart Head of Buffy The Vampire Slayer fame will be in the second series. Head has already participated in several Doctor Who projects including BBC Online’s Death Comes to Time and Big Finish’sDoctor Who-Excelis” miniseries, and was among the many actors originally mentioned as contenders for the role of the Doctor in 2003/04. Head’s played villains in the Big Finish Audio adventures, and he would make an exceptional adversary for The Doctor. Perhaps The Master will be reborn…?

Mind you, it’s still odd seeing him as someone other than Giles. smile

Penelope Wilton will return to the role of Harriet Jones, the brave MP of Flydale North and future British Prime Minister from last year’s Aliens of London and World War Three.

It is rumoured that her character has already become the leader of Britain’s government, and she will star in The Christmas Invasion. Wilton was an absolute gem in her role as the brave-but-bonkers backbench MP, and it was pretty obvious she’s perfect as another recurring character in the new mythos of the series.

Adam Garcia, an Australian actor whose films include “Riding In Cars With Boys” and “Coyote Ugly” and nominee for the 1999 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in “Saturday Night Fever”, will also star in series two.

Also confirmed for the second series, besides Tennant and Piper, are Camille Coduri as Jackie and Noel Clarke as Mickey, both announced earlier in the year.

Ok…now I’m officially getting excited! The 11-year-old within emerges! David Tennant and Billie Piper are going to helm another year of amazing televison…and The Christmas Invasion can’t come soon enough. smile
