I have TRIUMPHED!

What does one do when the higher powers of marketing don’t manage to sell the new Doctor Who series to the USA, resulting in the DVD release of the new episodes in Region 1 (North America) being put into limbo?
What does an irritated Canadian fan — subject to these marketing whims — do?
He goes to Future Shop, and finds a MULTI-REGION DVD PLAYER!

Yes…I bought it, and yes, it’s taken me completely by surprise, because 1—it’s a low end, cheaply priced player ($59), and 2—the conversion quality of the PAL Region 2 Disc I purchased on Amazon.co.uk is stunning!
Thank you, Kosch, for building the DV-X721 mutli-region-out-of-the-box player. You’ve allowed me to have my Doctor Who despite the evil minions at BBC Worldwide Americas, who have no sense of decorum as they play with their schedules…to the detriment of all Doctor Who fans.
In all honesty, this region coding is ridiculous. It’s nothing more than a marketing grab, designed to enslave the public into purchasing a certain type of product…in a certain place…at a certain time. Digital technology is compatible everywhere, but region coding allows for market monopolization.
Well, thanks to my new DVD player, I spit in the face of such commercial terrorism…and I can watch the new Doctor Who until I’m blue in the face! It takes so little to make me happy… ![]()
