Record-Breaking Beta

betahurricane.jpg

Tropical Storm Beta is about to become the 13th hurricane in this record-breaking season.

I once read an article in Time Magazine, where a meterologist was asked “what happens when we run out of names in a hurricane season?”

The answer, as we are now experiencing, is a switch to the Greek alphabet. But the response of the weatherman was (and I’m paraphrasing): “if we get that far, we have a bigger problem than running out of names.”

I couldn’t agree more…and after this devestating year of tropical weather, I’m suddenly very glad I live in the land of ice and snow. With rising sea temperatures driving these storms, someone better start coming up with some serious explanations…and exploring ideas such as “is this OUR fault?”

For those of you not deterred, and still thinking about living in paradise, here’s a piece of advice: unlike snow, you can’t shovel the remnants of a hurricane off your driveway…
