Scooter?

Vice-President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, has been indicted for perjury, making false statements and obstruction of justice for his role in the leaking of a covert CIA agent’s identity to the media in 2003.

File that under “the obvious”, “finally!” or even “that was inevitable.”

What I found more hilarious was President Bush’s statement of support for Mr. Libby, particularly when he said “Scooter has served his country with distinction.”

Scooter??

Why are 50 year old men still being called Scooter? Is something wrong with his real name? Even the press are constantly using his nickname. Is it on his business card?

Would you trust a man at the White House who still went by the name of Scooter? From the sound of it, you’d think the government was being run by party-animal frat boys, or something…

Oh…I forgot…the U.S. government IS being run by party-animals frat boys! A bunch of back-slapping, C-Average, good-ol-boys, who’d rather spend more time in Texas than at the White House.

Can you imagine Prime Minister Paul Martin praising one of his cabinet ministers with a nickname like that? I don’t think we’re going to hear “Stumpy was an excellent minister of the crown” any time soon…and thank god for that.

I’d weep bitter tears for the U.S. Executive Branch…if I didn’t despise it so much.
