Election Watch 2: Moral Fast-Tracking...and Back-Tracking

fedelex.jpg

The all-consuming ping-pong game of Canadian politics continues…

The opposition has set Nov. 28 as the most likely date to bring down the minority Liberal government, forcing an election campaign over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Apparently, this is to allow Parliament to fast-track all the legislation the government wants passed…

…which the Opposition is desperately hoping robs the Liberals of much ammunition during the campaign.

Wasn’t the refrain from the Opposition that this government doesn’t have the moral authority to govern any longer? Then why keep them in office for even one more day? Instead, the Opposition is letting the Prime Minister attend the APEC conference in South Korea, as well as the Aboriginal First Ministers’ meeting…

What was that about lacking the moral authority? The response you hear is the sound of crickets chirping.

Let’s leave it to Government House Leader Tony Valeri to sum up the tactics of the Opposition…especially the NDP’s wavering leader…for what they are:

“The leader of the NDP is so fearful of the fact that so many people have come out and said there is absolutely nothing wrong when the prime minister made that commitment to Canadians that today he’s attempting to backtrack, that today he’s afraid.”

If they want a rock-em, sock-em, ugly Chirstmas election, let’s do it…I’m more than ready. My friend James says it’s the perfect time to talk turkey…or about turkeys. smile

Again…what are we waiting for?
