The Vatican’s witch-hunt of gays in the priesthood is entering a new phase, with the release of a document that might as well be hate literature:
“The Church, while profoundly respecting the persons in question, cannot admit to the Seminary and to Holy Orders those who practice homosexuality, present deeply rooted homosexual tendencies or support the so-called gay culture.”
Could anything be more self-serving, more vindictive, and more disgusting than the above statement? The idea that the hierarchy of the Catholic Church “profoundly respects” gays and lesbians is about as convincing as the Pope standing up and saying that “women are equal participants in the life of the Church.” Spare me!
But what’s more reprehensible are the words of Msgr. Steve Rohlff, rector of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Maryland, commenting on the Church’s new policy:
“It flows obviously from the church’s teaching on human sexuality, which has been constant from the First century to the 20th Century — that homosexuality is an intrinsic disorder. It is a psychosexual disorder.”
You heard it correctly. The Church proudly practices a morality unchanged for two thousand years — a morality designed to breed nothing but hatred and contempt. And the Vatican wonders why so many people have stopped going to Church?
And calling it a “psychosexual disorder”?!? Psychiatrists abandonded that ancient prejudice half a century ago. What will it take for the Church to move on from its own medieval/dark age fanaticism? When will the Church finally embrace a 21st century reality?
With each step the church takes, it falls into greater and greater irrelevance. God made man in his own image…but when those who claim to speak for God officially — dogmatically — devalue that very same humanity, then evil has truly triumphed in the Vatican’s ancient cloisters…
