With the fall of the government, and the election beginning today, I’ll open with this thought: For the good of this country, DO NOT vote Conservative…at any cost.
If the Conservatives, as they exist now, ever get their hands on the machinery of government, it will be sunset for the Canada that we know. They will turn this vibrant, energetic nation into something dark, cold, and foreboding — the living embodiment of neo-conservative nihilism.
If you are a woman, a young person, gay, someone on low or fixed income, or native, there is NOTHING the Conservatives can offer you as a government. You will receive indifference at best…and become second-class citizens in your own country, at worst. Heartache is the only future you will have.
If you’re looking for ways to improve the public health system, the Conservatives can only offer you a choice between (1) dismantling with surgical precision; or (2) a wrecking ball of complete and utter devestation.
If you live in the urban areas, don’t hold your breath. If you’re a post-secondary student, don’t expect a dime of support.
Conservatives will only make Canada safe for certain people: white, upper-middle-class families with 2.4 children, who go to Church regularly. People who believe “evironmentalist” and “intellectual” are ditry labels. People who think we let too many brown people into this country. People who want a return of the death penalty, think the gun registry is a waste of money, and believe we should be cozying up to the United States. Conservatives will make those who long for Canada to embrace the American-centred Republicanism of George W. Bush extremely happy.
Just ask the Australians, who are suffering under the neo-con blessings of a man who is Harper’s mirror image. Day by day, Australia becomes a sadder, crueler, more demoralized nation…all as a result of becoming the bitch boy of George W. Bush’s Bible-thumping, intellectually stunted, unilateral America.
Stephen Harper’s Conservatives will destroy this country. Canada will become a pale shadow of its former self. We must destroy them first.
