When Tories shake the money tree, the craddle WILL rock!

Harperclown.jpg

Quelle Surprise! The Conservative child care plan is ridiculous, bogus, and totally unworkable.

1—Since when did $100 a month cut it for a family with a child under six years old? When I was a kid, living at home, the WEEKLY grocery bill always came to over $100. How exactly is this paltry money going to encourage people to explore their child care choices? Who in their right minds would give their child away to a baby sitter who only charges $100 a month? And you can’t honestly tell me that mothers or fathers can comfortably stay home for that paltry sum of cash?!? The sheer stupidity and blindness of this plan exposes Conservative ideology as the excrement that it has always been.

They’re just as likely to pass a law to keep women at home, barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen!

2—It’s taxable! WHY???

3—It comes with no strings…therefore, it doesn’t HAVE to be spent on child care. Parents can easily use it to help buy new snow tires…or go to the movies…or have their hair done. If this doesn’t convince people that Conservatives can bribe Canadians with their own money just as well as the other political parties, then nothing else will!

4—The Conservative plan calls for $250 million a year to be set aside for investment in community child care. The money is meant to increase the availability of child care by offering tax credits for capital investments in child-care spaces…

…and it will NEVER HAPPEN! No company is going to go out of their way to create child care out of the goodness of their heart…and this small tax credit certainly won’t change their minds. Why cut into profits and subsidize moms and dads who want to take care of their children rather than WORK! How non-capitalist they would be if this happened!

The Conservatives say they’re offering parents choice over their child care — they are liars! First of all, there isn’t enough available daycare to make a choice possible. Secondly, while I have no qualms about paying moms to stay home and look after kids, it’s only going to work if the Tories realize two things:

* $100 a month doesn’t work — let’s try for $1000 a month per child!

  • Ooops! Can’t do that without keeping taxes high and PAYING for this! Can’t do anything so antithetical to Conservative ideology!

I truly wish moms and/or dads could stay home. I would love to create a program where we’d pay them a stay-at-home salary of $25 000 or more for their time off work. I’d be more than happy to pay more tax to support such a caring, beautiful system…and STILL fund a national child care program!

But that will never happen under a Tory dictatorship. So let’s call a spade a spade and lay to rest this most ridiculous of bribes. The Conservative child care plan is a hose job…and if you fall for it, you’re a hoser yourself!
