Tidings of Gladness & Woe

The Compelling & The Inspirational

Master Corporal Paul Franklin, one of the soldiers wounded in an attack in Afghanistan, is the most amazing of individuals. Despite suffering his own horrific injuries in the blast, despite eventually losing one of his legs…he managed to tie a tourniquet around his damaged leg, and crawl over to his injured comrades, to give them first aid.

This man is more than a medic. He’s an genuine, selfless, authentic hero…a truly amazing example of humanity at its finest.

It’s nice to know that, in the face of an election that will bring a government of uncaring, ruthless, anti-poor, anti-choice, anti-gay ideologues to power, some people will continue to place the welfare of others above their own needs.

The Impressive & The Progressive

Brokeback Mountain won four Golden Globe awards last night — including best picture, best director, and best screenplay. The gay cowboy movie conquers Middle America.

The fact that Brokeback Mountain has found eager audiences across the country, including the conservative heartland, shows that Americans are willing to embrace stories of love in all forms. In the words of Director Ang Lee, “It has proven you can never categorize a region or place or stereotype them.”

Next stop, the Academy Awards.

The Disgusting

Stephen Harper. The man is on the way to becoming the Prime Minister of a majority government…and Canada will become an utter, total shambles. We’re going to become the latest neo-con, unfriendly, tight-assed U.S. bitch-boy under his rule.

God help us!
