I keep trying NOT to write about the election, as I promised…only to pull my hair out every time Stephen Harper opens his mouth and spews nonsense and garbage!

Last night, the CBC joined in…and I was appalled.
Yesterday’s town hall on The National was a joke. No questions about same-sex marriage. No questions about private health care. No hard nosed follow ups on his lack of international experience, his claim that the environment isn’t a priority, and his insipid answer to the question about his “vision” of Canada.
Why no follow ups about his half-mumbled answer to the vision question?
Why no on-the-spot explanation for being the only party with a different slogan in Quebec?
Why no hard-edged probing of his adamant claim that there will be no downloading to the provinces?
What the hell was going on in that studio?
The only conclusion I can come to is that Harper agreed to appear on the CBC because of some pre-arranged agreeement to vet all the questions beforehand. The entire exercise had the stench of heavy rehersal — all questions were soft-balled, nothing was nailed down.
Peter Mansbridge put the screws many times to Jim Greene, Paul Martin and Jack Layton. But last night, he gave a free pass to Stephen Harper. Perhaps the CBC governors are aware that they must now appease new paymasters…?
It was a sad, travesty of a town hall, and I was extremely disappointed. That the CBC I champion could broadcast such soft-core pap and call it “news” makes my stomach turn.
Just another step this country is taking on the road to Conservative perdition!
