It must be. Here I am, in between semesters, pondering various things…

(1) Why didn’t I watch the State of the Union last night? That’s an easy one — I wasn’t in the mood to watch the supposed-leader of the free world mangle the English language on live television. I wasn’t in the mood to watch him wrestle the language of Shakespeare into the mud, then beat it with a stick until it screamed for mercy.
I wasn’t in the mood to watch another rant about “returning to American values” (read: MORE religion!), fighting against “activisit courts” (read: ANTI-choice and ANTI-gay), and loosening dependence on foreign oil (BOMB them all to hell!).
There’s never a good time to sit back and watch George W. Bush on television, and the State of the Union is the worst time of all! Where is Josiah Bartlet when you need him…
(2) It seems that Americans have once again fired on Canadians in a combat zone. I’m beginning to think that they can’t help themselves. Do they have something against us for being pot-smoking, gay loving, anti-gun pinko communists?
(3) Brokeback Mountain leads with 8 Oscar nominations — which is a beautiful thumb in the eye to people who support George W. Bush and his moronic band of followers.
(4) It’s been the warmest January in a century. There have been more spring-like days than winter days in the past month. You don’t think it’s that fictional global warming thing, do you…?
Welcome to February. It can’t possibly be any worse than January.
