Prime Minister Moron (sorry…Stephen Harper) has made a few choice comments about requests for a debate in Parliament regarding Canada’s role in Afghanistan.
However, it’s not likely to happen under the watch of this wretched man. According to his infinite (read: pathetic!) wisdom, a debate on whether Canadian troops should be in Afghanistan would put the troops in danger, and any attempt to pull them back would be a betrayal.
Want to hear the direct quote?
“I’m saying that Canadians don’t cut and run at the first sign of trouble. That’s the nature of this country, and when we send troops into the field, I expect Canadians to support those troops.”
Let’s examine this for a moment:

(1) Who said ANYTHING about withdrawl? I am more than happy to have Canadian forces in Afghanistan…and a debate doesn’t mean pulling out our troops! A debate can serve to boost morale — to explain and affirm WHY we are there (and there are many, many good…and non-Iraq…reasons).
But Harper characterizes it as a betrayal — an insult to the troops. That’s George W. Bush logic…and it’s completely unhinged! There isn’t any rational connection between debate AND betrayal. Then again, most modern Conservatives defy logical analysis…
(2) Why is Harper using preposterous language such as “cut and run”? What type of wild west routine is he trying to sell? Just because he’s a pseudo-Albertan, doesn’t mean he needs to go around sounding like the love child of John Wayne and George W. Bush! Can this man please grow up and use language that reflects the stature of the office? Bloody hell! Can you imagine Trudeau or Pearson…or even Mulroney…uttering this tripe?
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our new normal: a Prime Minister who is morally spurious and linguistically bankrupt. God help us.
