Soliloquy of the Week

doctorwho1973as.jpg

Like good wine, some television ages very well…

Last night, while visiting my friend James, we re-watched the classic Doctor Who story The Ark in Space. In honour of that exceptional piece of storytelling and program-making (what…you haven’t got it in your DVD collection yet?), I offer this poetic soliloquy on the part of the Doctor…something to carry you through the weekend…

“Homo sapiens!”

“What an inventive, invincible species. It’s only a few million years since they crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenceless bipeds. They’ve survived flood, famine and plague. They’ve survived cosmic wars and holocausts. And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life. Ready to out-sit eternity. They’re indomitable.”
