Going Up and Going Away

I’m off to England again this summer. Thirteen days of relaxation and sight-seeing awaits, from London to Oxford, from Cambridge to Stonehenge…and even a side trip to Cardiff…

…where my friend and I will try to stalk the Doctor Who film crew and see if we can get some pictures and autographs. Once a fan boy, ALWAYS a fan boy. smile

I’m very much looking forward to returning — so much so that, as far as the rest of the school year is concerned, I’ve already mentally moved on! So much yet to see, and this time I have the advantage of not having to stay in a hotel, but in the freshly re-decorated spare room in my friend Colin’s house. A place to lounge about, nap, and read newspapers is just as important as pounding the pavement from attraction to attraction.

I’m writing about this now because the world economy has given me an interesting gift: last night, the Canadian dollar reached a high it hasn’t seen since 1978: it closed at 89.45 cents US. That’s going to knock off a great deal of the cost I paid to convert loonies into pounds last summer.

I’ll take it as a good omen. I still remember when the dollar spent most of the 1990s in the low to mid 60 cent range. Now, they’re whispering that the dollar could reach par with the US dollar…and that hasn’t happened since I was 2 years old!

Anyhow, since it is Saturday morning, and I’ve had a wonderful sleep-in, I shall begin to loungeabout and relax a little bit more…
