How NOT to Decorate a DVD cover

With the imminent release of the Doctor Who classic Genesis of the Daleks on DVD here in North America, let us examine the difference between the original UK DVD covers, and our North American attempts.

Below you will find the UK version (released earlier this year): it’s simultaneously moody, creepy, bold and exciting…

Now, examine the North American version. A giant photo of Tom (the 4th Doctor) Baker, plastered big and large, because BBC America believes ANYTHING with Tom Baker’s face on the cover will sell (god help them when they get to The Horns of Nimon!). Add some stupid electricity sparking, that ridiculously dumbs-down the actual scene being depicted…throw in a brownish-fading (let’s face it, almost INVISIBLE) picture of Davros and the Daleks…and you wonder if this came from the file marked “generic Tom Baker collage set”.

BIG, LONG-SUFFERING Sigh…

Why can’t they actually CARE about their designs? And I’m not even going to mention the double-dumb-ass Daleks on the cover of Remembrance of the Daleks

…oops…just did!
