And so it ends…with a tear, on my part.
Rose Tyler, magnificently portrayed by Billie Piper, has come to the end of her incredibly journey. Travelling with two Doctors, seeing the universe…and helping to relaunch the best television program ever conceived!
Her departure in Doomsday brings to an end the first great epoch of the new era of Doctor Who — it’s hard to imagine the show continuing on without her. Then again, it must have felt the same way when Carol Ann Ford’s Susan left her Doctor in 1964…and when Elisabeth Sladen’s Sarah Jane Smith said goodbye to her Doctor in 1976…
Doctor Who continues because it’s always changing…always moving on, always evolving. Now begins the most exciting time to be a fan of this amazing show: what will happen next? What will the new girl add to the mix? How will the Doctor change, now that Rose has gone? What new creatures will reveal themselves…and what classic monster will return?
Well, the first thing that’s going to happen are my reviews of this past season’s episodes. Yes, I’ve broken down: I’m finally going to do the reviews, in batches of 2, 3 and/or 4 episodes, depending on my mood. I’m going to make it one of my summer projects. Watch for them, coming soon.
As for the second thing…well, as anyone who’s seen the final scene of Doomsday can tell you, DOCTOR WHO WILL RETURN at Christmas, in…
THE RUNAWAY BRIDE!
Stay tuned…
