…I have a few random observations to make, about Cardiff AND yesterday’s day trip to London:
(1) I didn’t get to see any filming, but I did get to see a set…sort of
We arrived in Cardiff the day AFTER filming on the next Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Runaway Bride, took place in the city centre. To compound my frustration, that night, as we slept, they began to film AGAIN, in the wee hours, only four blocks away from our hotel!
SIGH…
Ah well…one consolation was that we had lunch and dinner inside the swankiest pub and restaurant in Cardiff: The Fat Cat. In fact, it’s so swanky that scenes from the up-coming spin-off Torchwood were filmed inside the bar not too long ago. My host is friends with the staff, so both our meals were pleasant experiences. To be honest, I felt as if I was some dirty chav, invading an establishment far too upscale for my own good.
Below, you’ll find a half-decent picture of me at the bar (apologies for the darkness).
(2) The cradle of governent is quite beautiful
Unfortunately, the usual stupid regulations prevented me from taking pictures inside of the Westminster Parliament buildings, but I did manage to get some of the usual establishing shots we tourists are known for…including one of me in front of the Jewel Tower, the only surviving piece of the original Palace of Westminster, which burned down in the early 19th century.
(3) I put my feet into Diana’s moist circle! Honest!
No, it’s not what you’re thinking, you dirty minded people.
I’m talking about the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Fountain, located in Hyde Park, which I finally managed to visit. I’ve heard so much about it…all the problems it suffered when it first opened…all the jokes of it becoming a white elephant, on the scale of the Millennium Dome…
Luckily, all of that is in the past, and today, the Diana fountain is a green and refreshing place to relax. I put my sore, walked-to-death feet into the ice cold waters of this rather beautiful and stylish piece of art, and after ten minutes, it was as if I had never been in pain! Diana’s waters should be bottled and sold. ![]()
