Yesterday’s addition of three new planets to our solar system (that’s Charon, Ceres & Xena, for those of you in the dark) has been superbly discussed at my friend James’ blog — I highly recommend reading his entry on the topic.
That said, I was personally struck by a sweet little comment from last night, in a story on CBC’s The National. It was from a small child, attending a science/space camp/summer school — when asked where these new planets were, he replied:
“I dunno…far away…maybe near the BLACK HOLE!”
This left me with two reactions:
(1) The kid was cute beyond reason, and I laughed long and hard;
(2) Does this kid know something that we don’t? I’m not ready for death-by-event-horizon just yet…
