My mother passed her check up — she’s healthy. I can relax for another 6 months. I could feel my body deflate, as the pressure of the past few days poured out of me like an over-stretched balloon.
Driving into Toronto, and finding a parking spot near the consulate, turned out to be easier than expected.
No frayed nerves. No lost tempers…at least, until we tried to get home.
Gorged on a giant supper from an amazing Polish restaurant on Roncesvalles Ave (Cafe Polonez…I highly recommend it), I ended up having plenty of time to digest it as we were trapped in gridlocked traffic on Lakeshore Rd….then trapped in more gridlocked traffic at the 401 & 403/410 interchange…then trapped in even more gridlocked traffic at the 401/407 interchange.
It took an hour and a half to get home. It took an hour to get as far as Oakville! Suffice to say, the digestion process of dinner went a little sour at that point…

Someone…anyone…please send Waterloo Region a GO Train extension. After sitting in my car, wistfully observing several smooth running, unencumbered, double-decker trains pass by my window, I began to ponderr why anyone would even WANT to drive their four-wheeled beast to and from Toronto, when such a glorious alternative exists!
I yearn to be able to take regular trips to Toronto…only having to worry about getting a nice nap, or having enough reading material to keep me occupied. We should be spared white-knuckle, adrenaline-pumping dodge-cars all the way home.
