Thanksgiving isn’t a big deal in my neck of the woods. It usually involves the following:
(1) Going home for turkey dinner…which isn’t terribly extraordinary, as I go home for dinner every Sunday…
(2) Marking papers…somehow, I always end up marking papers over the Thanksgiving weekend. Still, sitting in front of my mom & dad’s home theatre system, watching a Doctor Who in Dolby 5.1 digital stereo as I scrawl red ink over essays, manages to reduce the pain…
(3) Avoiding Oktoberfest…I must be one of the few life-long Kitchener residents who doesn’t give a damn about the world’s largest drinking party. I’m Polish…I don’t need a German-beer-garden-on-steroids to dictate to me about sausage, polka music, and liquor!
It would seem my regular routine has become my Turkey Day tradition…and there are worse ways to spend the weekend.
Happy gorging on burnt bird, everyone!
