Sometimes...

…people will say the most extraordinary things.

A few ex-students of mine paid me a visit today, fresh off their university exams. One of them brought me a Christmas card, and I asked him if he was visiting anyone else in the school.

His reply was: “Why? No one else taught me anything.”

I was nearly speechless. I shooed him away with a few pleasantries (I can’t even remember what I said), then proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes in a fuge state.

I’m not an arrogant or immodest man, but I know what he meant…and at that moment, I felt wonderful. In fact, I felt bloody amazing! It’s not everyday someone says something so simple…yet so profound & so touching. It’s another reminder of why I’m in my chosen profession.

So I want to thank that young man (and he knows who he is). You’re a credit to your family, your talent, and your ambition. If I played a small part in encouraging you, then I’ve done my job.

Such a nice Christmas present. smile
