This year, there are a number of reasons:
(1) The continuous air play given to the cretinous Conservative Party attack ads, slamming Liberal leader Stephan Dion. I wasn’t aware an election had already been called…but I am now very aware that Stephen Harper’s army of darkness has money to burn, and in the most vile & negative of ways.
When the election is called, things are going to get exceptionally ugly…
(2) No new episode of Battlestar Galactica…a smart ratings decision, but lousy for us geeks who couldn’t give a damn about football…
(3) …that said, I would have been interested in watching all the new commercials that premiere during the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, thanks to Canadian simulcasting, we didn’t get to see any of them…just continuous play of those DAMN Conservative ads!
And finally, the fourth reason this year’s Super Bowl extravaganza irritated me:
(4) It wasn’t enough of a distraction to hide the fact that George W. Bush is asking Congress for a further $29 billion to wage war in Iraq. That lifts the military budget to an ABSOLUTELY OBSCENE $624.6 BILLION!!!
At this rate, the American military budget will become so vast, they’ll have to declare war against a convenient Galactic Empire to justify the spending!
