The war in Afghanistan…global warming…rising gas prices…there is any number of issues our government and the opposition parties should be worrying about…
…but it seems they would prefer to argue about HOCKEY!
I won’t bore you with the details…visit THESE TWO links to get the inside story of the Bloc Quebecois’ decision to argue that hockey star Shane Doan shouldn’t be the captain of Canada’s national hockey team. Apparently, he’s anti-French, based on a slur he uttered to a francophone linesman TWO YEARS AGO!
Except…he DIDN’T utter a slur. The NHL investigated the matter and concluded that NOTHING actualy happened!
So…inspite of the fact that the world is hurling at Canada problems that require thought and attention…EVERY SINGLE POLITICAL PARTY decided to support the motion for Hockey Canada executives to appear before the House official languages committee and explain WHY they chose Shane Doan as Team Canada Captain…even thought there is no evidence he has done ANYTHING to prevent him from being team captain!
This is what my taxes are paying for? An Ottawa more obsessed with a two-year-old hockey soap opera than with pressing national & international issues?
Hmm…time for some awards of distinction:
(1) To Giles Duceppe and the BQ — the WE ARE NOW OFFICIALLY IRRELEVANT award. The search for something — anything — worthwhile to say in the House of Commons has led you to this farce of politics. Find a rock, crawl under it, and die!
(2) To all the other parties in the House of Commons — the WE ARE ALL TOOLS award. You are more than tools. You are tools that have fallen off the belt of a decrepit, incompetent, pee-smelling tool, who is heir to the kingdom of the tools! You are all completely and utterly pathetic, and don’t deserve a cent of your paycheques.
Ladies and gentlemen: our sad-sack government . In the words of a wise man, “I fart in your general direction!”
