I’d like to think I’m a decent, caring man. Someone who doesn’t believe in revenge…someone who doesn’t lash out…someone who believes compassion to be a defining trait…
But I would be lying if I said I was sad to hear of the passing of Jerry Falwell. On the contrary…I’m about to open a celebratory bottle of beer, and hope that his soul has been sent to the lowest level of hell — right to the foundations!
This man was the king of the bigots — he claimed to be a man of God, yet he revelled in excoriating those who didn’t live up to his repuslive, medieval, autocratic views on Christianity. He was a man who cloaked hatred of modern feminists, gays, secularists, civil liberatrians & moderates in flowery religious language…but most intelligent people realized that, behind the bluster, he was nothing but a repugnant, gobshite-spouting fungal growth masquerading as a human being. And today’s Republican Party in the USA has been completely co-opted by Falwell’s repulsive Moral Majority/Christian Coalition movement…and George W. Bush is their demi-god!
Here’s a taste of what this reptilian slime offered the world:
(1) On the reasons behind the 9/11 attacks:
And, I know that I’ll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way — all of them who have tried to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say, “You helped this happen.”
(2) On gay people & AIDS:
AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.
(3) On the separation of Church & State:
The idea that religion and politics don’t mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country.
(4) On women’s rights & feminism:
It appears that America’s anti-Biblical feminist movement is at last dying, thank God, and is possibly being replaced by a Christ-centered men’s movement which may become the foundation for a desperately needed national spiritual awakening.
(5) On Isreal & Jewish people:
The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior.
And many, many more…if you have the stomach to read it all!
He’s gone…but his dark legacy remains, smouldering like a modern-day Sauron, with millions of equally bigoted & repulsive disciples, trying to turn the United States into a theocracy…delusionally waiting for the Rature and End of Days that’s surely around the corner (derisive COUGH!). I don’t know whether to laugh or scream at these people…but I do know that I pity them.
The victory of all sensible, tolerant, moderate, and compassionate peoples across North America — and the world — over the forces of radical, evangelical hate will not be complete until every trace of Falwell’s influence is eradicated. Even if it takes a lifetime, it’s a battle worth fighting.
Goodbye, Jerry Falwell. You were a twisted abhorrence…and I hope your skull becomes Satan’s beer stein!
