SQUEE — it’s the new word of the day…and it’s one of those wonderful new fanwank words that has taken the internet by storm. Unlike previous fad-words, I’m determined not to miss this bandwagon…
I first came across SQUEE in Doctor Who fandom, as threads on Outpost Gallifrey asked/measured/discussed the SQUEE-level of various episodes. I’ve continued to encounter SQUEE in other fandoms (such as anime and Harry Potter), and it continues to grow…
…and strangely enough, I rather like it.
It helps that the Urban Dictionary describes it about as perfectly as possible (at least, as I envision it):
A noise primarily made by an over-excited fangirl, however it has spread rapidly and is now widely spread among the web community.
“Omg!! New Harry Potter book out!! Omg Squee squee! omg!!!”
Am I saying that I once screamed like a fangirl? Hmm…I guess I did…especially after the rather cataclysmic events of the Doctor Who episode Utopia (oh my god oh my god oh my god!). I had a similar reaction to the opening credits of Superman Returns (just like when I was 5 years old!)…and to Yoda kicking ass in Attack of the Clones (complete with hold-back-the-drool effort)…
You get the idea. ![]()
So SQUEE is out there, and you’ll probably be seeing it more and more in my movie & television reviews…I just thought I’d get it out in the open…because I’m far too gigantic to be called a squeeing fangirl…
…I’m an unapologetic, squeeing fanboy! Never forget it! ![]()
