The Big "MEH"

I’m watching the election results on TV, mildly happy that my Ontario Liberals are heading to another majority government…

…but in reality, I honestly don’t give a sh*t.

First time since high school that I haven’t given a damn about politics.

It’s sad…it used to excite me SO much…to the point where I earned two degrees in Political Science to validate that excitement. Once, in a time long ago, my zeal knew no bounds…and I worshipped daily at the altar of the dear, departed Pierre Trudeau.

But real life events have rendered my care for the governing of our province and our nation to less than zero. I have other concerns…and other people to be concerned about…

This afternoon, I was sitting in the waiting area of the radiation treatment level of the hospital…trying to distract myself with 6-month-old magazines and newspapers well-thumbed by the dozens of people who preceeded me in my chosen chair. Alone with my thoughts in that unearthly calm — the silence broken by the occasional soft buzz emanating from the treatment cabins — focuses the mind on many things…and none of those things have anything to do with the ridiculousness of politics.

I miss being excited by the cut-and-thrust…but the nostalgia eventually disappears. At this point, I don’t see my political love returning for a long time…if ever. It rings hollow…it feels trivial…it matters not one bit, especially when my primary concern is to head to the drug store to pick up the latest batch of meds & pain killers…enough to incapacitate a school of whales.

Real life can truly be a pile of excrement. um...
