DOCTOR WHO - Time Crash

Written by Stephen Moffat

Directed by Graeme Harper

“You know…I loved being you. Back when I first started, at the very beginning, I was always trying to be old and grumpy and important, like you do when you’re young…and then I was YOU. And it was all dashing about, and playing cricket, and my voice going all squeaky when I shouted…I still do that! I got that from you…cause you know what, Doctor? You were MY Doctor.”

“To days to come.”

“All my love to long ago.”

Time Crash: it’s not a full episode…but in some ways, it’s even better!

This is a love letter…an ode to a golden age of Doctor Who – one both long ago, and one alive and well this very day.

This is an ode to the joys of fandom…and to the talents of the incomparable Peter Davison. Writer Stephen Moffat, Director Graeme Harper (the man who helmed Davison’s 1984 finale) and Tenth Doctor David Tennant spend eight minutes sharing with the world why they are the number one fans of the Fifth Doctor…and we’re invited to come along and share the love.

Glorious dialogue, glorious continuity references, and the acting talents of two great men: one, my childhood hero…and the other, the hero of my second childhood. I began to tear up at the end, as the current Doctor expressed his appreciation – and MINE – to his past self. More than any other moment in the revived series, THIS was the moment the torch was passed, and it couldn’t have been handled more beautifully.

Even the music was inspired by the Fifth Doctor’s era…and seeing Davison’s name appear alongside Tennant’s in the main title sequence made my heart flutter.

After two seemingly endless, rough, irritating, and sad weeks in my life, Time Crash uplifted me in a way angels could only dream of doing…and for that, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the production team. Once again, you have proven why Doctor Who is the best thing ever created for television…and using the YouTube link below, you too, my dear readers, can share the enjoyment with me. beam
